Laser Pigmented Lesions

How Does The Laser Pigmented Lesions Work?

The laser can be used to treat a variety of different pigmented skin lesions. The laser light is absorbed by the pigment, which is shattered into small pieces. The immune system cells of the body then carry these fragmented pieces away. The skin lesion is noted to get lighter in color with each treatment. It is recommended for skin-pigmented problems such as Red Spots and Brown Spots

Understand type of Pigmented and Spots on your body

Spots on your body caused from pigmented problems are different in short we called Red Spots and Brown Spots

Brown Spots

  • Solar Lentigines
Solar Lentigines, or 'age spots' or 'liver spots' are directly related to sun exposure and have nothing to do with either age or the liver.

  • Seborrehic Keratoses
Seborrehic Keratoses look like 'warty' growths. They develop with age and are completely harmless. They seem to be related to genetics, previous sun exposure, and age. They are usually too thick to be treated with lasers.

Red Spots

  • Cherry Angiomas
The most common red spots are called cherry angiomas, small red dots that appear, as you get older, beginning in your 20s or 30s. They are completely harmless and they are often seen on the face, chest and back, although they can appear anywhere.

  • Telangiectasias
Telangiectasias are broken blood vessels, commonly seen on the face, specifically around the nose, on the cheeks, forehead and neck. These broken blood vessels are caused by cumulative sun exposure, trauma (such as squeezing pimples).

  • Hemangiomas and Port Wine Stains
Hemangiomas and Port Wine Stains usually occur at birth or in childhood. Some hemangiomas will disappear with time, while others do not.

What to expect during and after treatment?

Treatment may vary depending upon patient characteristics and the area being treated. Everyone in laser treatment will be wearing special goggles to protect yours eyes from the laser light beam.

In most cases, anesthesia is not required but you can request or consult doctor if you need one.

You may feel a slight stinging sensation during the treatment followed by some redness, which usually goes away in 2-4 hours. Some swelling may also be experienced and may last 1-2 days. There will not be any purple skin discoloration or bruised appearance to the treated skin.

Final treatment results should be evident within 2-3 weeks after treatment for pigmented lesions. In the meantime, normal daily activities can by resumed with only a slight redness evident at the treatment area.
